On Monday, President Bola Tinubu highlighted the potential benefits of utilizing natural gas to power the nation’s transportation industry.
He emphasised that it would reduce transportation costs, enhance productivity, and save the nation trillions of naira spent on the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
He made these remarks during the inauguration of 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses in Abuja, donated to the federal government by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
According to him, commercial vehicles accounted for about 80 per cent of the nation’s petroleum demand and he noted that countries that have switched to CNG for their transportation systems are reaping the benefits.
