Tinubu welcomes Supreme Court judgement affirming constitutional rights of LGAs

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu welcomed the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s decision affirming the constitutional rights of local governments, emphasising their pivotal role in governance at the grassroots level. 

He highlighted longstanding challenges in local government administration and expressed optimism that the ruling would empower local leaders to ensure effective service delivery to all Nigerians.

Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale in a statement said he reiterated that the ruling underpins the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at inclusive development regardless of differences.

The President emphasised the accountability of elected local officials and pledged to use legal avenues to reform governance and improve socio-economic conditions nationwide.

President Tinubu stressed the ruling’s significance in restoring local governments’ autonomy and enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities, such as infrastructure maintenance and community security. 

He commended the Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi, for his dedication to this cause and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and effective governance for all Nigerians.
