President Bola Tinubu on Thursday emphasised his administration’s commitment to investing in digital technology to bolster small businesses, create opportunities across sectors, and position Nigeria as a leader in information and communications technology in Africa.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that the President made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Meta Platforms Incorporated, led by Sir Nick Clegg, former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta’s President of Global Affairs, in Abuja.Ā
President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s imperative to keep pace with technological advancements and outlined his administration’s efforts to foster opportunities in information and communications technology, build capacity, and cultivate partnerships.
Regarding his administration’s 3MTT program, aimed at training three million Nigerian youths in digital technology and essential skills before deploying them to innovation hubs nationwide, President Tinubu stressed the pivotal role of Nigerian youths in the country’s digital economic expansion.Ā
He underscored the importance of preparing youths to compete in the global economy, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to lead the African continent in digital technology.Ā

President Tinubu also highlighted the significance of technology in driving small businesses, expressing his dedication to leveraging technology to catalyze growth for micro-businesses and foster widespread prosperity.Ā
He stressed the need for a conducive business environment to support small businesses, expressing hope for collaboration to promote mutual interests.
Sir Clegg expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for an executive order facilitating the landing of the Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria, describing it as an extraordinary infrastructure project with significant economic potential for Africa.
Sir Clegg also announced Meta’s plan to introduce a feature on its Instagram app in June 2024, allowing Nigerian creators to monetize their content, thereby enabling them to earn a living through the platform.
He stressed Meta’s commitment to deepening partnerships with Nigeria.Ā
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, underscored the critical role of Meta platforms in Nigeria and emphasised the importance of partnerships and engagement to promote development in the digital economy sector.Ā
Minister Tijani emphasised the need to create opportunities for Nigerians to share in global prosperity through digital technology.
