Tips on how to make your Android’s battery last more than a day

Tips on how to make your Android phone last more than a day

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

I used to have a problem seeing my phoneā€™s battery last for less than a day, which I never relished having to do until I decided to uncheck a few settings that I deemed rather unnecessary. Today, my phone is with me from morning to evening and even at night as my companion. If your device also faces the problem of not lasting longer, below are the essential fevers you need to tweak.

Remove Unused Apps to the Sleep

To eliminate the background activities of the unused apps, one has to put them to sleep and thus decrease the battery power used.

To put an app into a deep sleep on a Samsung Galaxy phone, go to settings -> battery -> background usage limits. Subsequently, touching ā€œDeep Sleeping Appsā€ would open the list. Next, go to the appsā€™ list and click on the ā€˜+ā€™ at the top right corner of the screen, then choose which apps you want to pin by clicking beside the circles and after that click ā€˜Addā€™ at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Unlock your Pixel phone go to Settings->Battery, and tap on ā€œBattery Usageā€. Scroll down to the desired app and untick the ā€œAllow Background Activityā€ toggle.

Disable Always-On Display

Notifications and other icons of the smartphone are always visible on a certain part of the screen although the phone itself is not in active use. Handy, it is but operating it entails the constant consumption of power. Disabling this particular feature can contribute to the consumption of less power thus making the battery longevity of your phone longer.

To disable this feature on the Galaxy phone, go to settings which is followed by lock screen and AOD, and turn off the ā€œAlways On Displayā€ switch.

Adjust Screen Timeout

Screen timeout means the time for which your phone screen remains ON when you are not frequently interacting with your phone. After this period, it shuts down by its own accord. The characteristics of an effective business essay are as follows; Consequently, by decreasing the timeout, the display of your phone will turn off faster and it will positively contribute to preserving the batteryā€™s power. On the Galaxy phone, one would need to go to the Control Centre and select Display and then Screen Timeout.

Choose 30 seconds in order not to leave your phoneā€™s screen on for a longer amount of time and with that, consume more energy if it remains untouched.

Adjust Refresh Rate

Acceptable refresh rate simply means how often the screen can refresh in seconds. The higher refresh rates of the frames help in presenting a smooth picture but at the same time, it drains battery power in the process. Reduction of this frequency can assist in saving battery power. To manage the refresh rate on any Galaxy phone, go to Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness.

Next, if this is set to high, change it to standard and click apply, this will change the monitor refresh rate from 120Hz to 60Hz, which will greatly conserve battery. Though it will impact the graphical representation.

When you press the power button to turn it on, be sure to turn on the power saving mode.
Disabling high power mode automatically dims the screen and restricts the running of background applications, limits the use of graphic animations, and turns off vibration, haptic feedback, and the always-on display among others. This way, your phone uses less battery resources when the mentioned functions are deactivated hence, the battery lasts longer.

This feature can be used when you are browsing casually using the phone or when the phone is left inactive for some time to save power. To enable it, go to the Settings app, then to ā€œBatteryā€ and turn on ā€œPower Saving.ā€ If you want to configure what aspects can be constrained or turned off, simply tap ā€œPower Savingā€ to bring up the settings.

Turn Off Wi-Fi Scanning

Wifting is a background service on android handsets that is used to discover new WiFi networks even though the WiFi on the phone is off. While it enhances the precision of services that depend on location, it is always scanning which usually leaves your battery drained. Turning it off ceases the background scanning which in turn will conserve battery power.

To disable this feature on any Galaxy phone, you need to go to settings > location > location services and switch off the Wi-Fi scanning option.

Disable Location Services

Besides scanning for Wi-Fi networks, there are other location services that as useful as they are, will keep on using your battery. These include:

  • Earthquake Alerts: This gives an alert of an earthquake close to your area and the initial approximation of its magnitude and distance.
  • Emergency Location Service: Alerts the emergency dispatchers regarding the location of a user each time he or she sends a text or makes a call to emergency personnel.
  • Google Location Accuracy: Applied by Google for fine-tuning the location and services based on location.

On the Galaxy phone, to disable all these features, open Settings, select Location, then tap on Location services, and for each of the listed services mentioned above, disable the ON switch.

Save Battery for High Consumption Apps

Using the mobile applications, some of them tend to drain battery power much than the others. Some of these applications can be easily recognized and their settings modified in order to limit the battery consumption. For instance, you can send a power greedy application to deep sleep in case it is not already done, switch off notification from the application, control the time it spends on the screen or disable certain excess options such as location tracking constantly.

To discover the applications causing a poor battery life on your Galaxy phone, first, open Settings and then Device Care and finally Battery. Swipe down and you will find out which applications or options take most of that energy.

Enable Adaptive Brightness

I used to set the brightness higher and then forget to roll it down once I got to an environment with better lighting this was specifically a habit of mine. After that, I engaged the adaptive brightness feature of the tablet that allows the brightness of the LCD to change as the brightness of the surrounding environment changes. It made me to be able to know how to manage my battery more appropriately.

When turned on, this makes the screen bright enough to illuminate your screen to the best esteem you desire without having to strain your eyes as well as saving up battery power. To do this on a Galaxy phone, you go into the Settings app, select ā€˜Displayā€™, and, switch the ā€˜Adaptive Brightnessā€™ toggle on ā€“ you will then notice your phone changing the brightness depending on the environment it is in.
