Tribunal Victory: Governance is about service – Sanwo-Olu

Sanwo-Olu, Gbadebo, Jandor

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal inspired his administration to redouble efforts in delivering quality dividends of democracy to Lagosians.

Sanwo-Olu and his deputy governor, Dr Ibafemi Hamzat’s candidacy was upheld yesterday by the Lagos Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Olajide Adediran.

The three-person Tribunal presided over by Justice Arum Ashom said the petition lacked merit.

Sanwo-Olu added that his administration’s promises remained steadfast, saying the voices of Lagosians were heard loud and clear at the polls, resulting in his landslide victory.

He commended the judiciary and the judges who delivered the judgments for taking their time to explain to everyone the reasons that led them to the views and conclusions given.

“We thank the judges for their firm commitment to the principle of fairness and justice. I also thank Mr President as well as the leadership of our great party APC at the State and Nationwide level for their role in the success of our re-election.

“Yesterday the Election Petition Tribunal dismissed emphatically two petitions against our government and unanimously reaffirmed our victory at the polls to the Glory of God and in service to the people.

“@drobafemihamzat and I feel very privileged to have been elected to serve at this important moment in the history of our State. We thank all Lagosians for standing by us all through this journey. For us, this judgment is a victory for all. We are not coming out here to say somebody won or lost. For all of us on this political trajectory, there are no winners or losers.

“I would like to extend a hand of fellowship to my opponents in the election. I ask that you display a spirit of sportsmanship and accept the verdict of the tribunal in good faith.

“I invite you to join hands with us and channel your passion to causes that would take the State to the next phase of development. We are ready to sit with you and have conversations about what ways you can channel your ideas in the development of the State.”

Sanwo-Olu added that Lagos is big and its challenges are real while its opportunities are boundless but there is always room for everybody to contribute.
