Trump to attend Club World Cup final as FIFA opens office in Trump Tower

In a stunning blend of sport and politics, U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance at Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey.

The high-stakes clash, set to be hosted at the iconic MetLife Stadium, will see Chelsea battle either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain for global glory.

This announcement came just a day after FIFA revealed it had opened a new office in Trump Tower. While the organisation already operates from Miami, officials believe that setting up base in New York enhances visibility and fortifies collaboration with American authorities.

Significantly, Trump also chairs a White House taskforce responsible for coordinating preparations for both the Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host alongside Canada and Mexico.

His increased involvement in sports during his second term has not gone unnoticed, especially as he becomes the first sitting president to attend both the Super Bowl and now the Club World Cup final.

Infantino praises Trump

FIFA president Gianni Infantino, speaking on the growing U.S. partnership, praised Trump’s administration for its support. According to him, establishing a hub in Trump Tower signals FIFA’s intention to become locally integrated in every region where football thrives. “To be global, we must be local,” Infantino noted, affirming that football’s reach should reflect its universal appeal.

Despite the positive tone, the backdrop remains politically charged. Trump’s controversial immigration stance – marked by travel restrictions affecting over a dozen countries – has drawn concern from global fans. Yet, Infantino insists that the U.S. will offer a warm welcome to all attendees during both tournaments.

Beyond football, Trump has amplified his sporting footprint in recent months. He’s attended several UFC events – including one in New Jersey – and has declared plans for the White House to host a UFC showcase next year. In addition, he recently confirmed Washington, D.C. as the venue for the 2027 NFL Draft.

As the world watches the unfolding tournament, Trump’s presence at the final – and FIFA’s expanding U.S. strategy – signals a unique convergence of sport, politics, and global diplomacy on football’s grand stage.
