Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are bracing for a high-stakes quarter-final duel with Senegal at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The decisive match is set for next Monday at the Suez Canal Stadium, Ismailia.
Senegal sealed their place in the last eight with a commanding 2-0 victory over DR Congo in their final Group C fixture. That result saw the Cubs finish second in the group standings with four points from three matches.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Satellites topped the same group after amassing seven points.

The Flying Eagles, on the other hand, have shown resilience throughout their Group B campaign. They kicked off their journey on a bright note after opening their tournament with a 1-0 win over Tunisia. Akwa United player Auwal Ibrahim scored the only goal of the game in the first half.

However, Nigeria’s second outing ended goalless against Morocco, who proved stubborn and defensively solid. In their final group match, the Flying Eagles displayed real grit, twice coming from behind to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw with Kenya.
With five points from three games, Nigeria clinched second spot in Group B, while Morocco topped the group with seven points. Both nations impressively remained unbeaten through the group phase.
This upcoming clash between Nigeria and Senegal rekindles memories of their meeting two years ago. Back then, Senegal edged the Flying Eagles 1-0 in a tense group-stage encounter in Egypt.
This time, however, the stakes are far higher. The winner not only progresses to the semi-finals but also picks a ticket to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The encounter kicks off at 1pm Nigeria time.
