Two fantastic first-half goals through Samson Lawal and Ibrahim Muhammad were all the Nigerian side needed to secure the win.

Ladan Bosso’s charges dominated possession in Ismailia and had a couple shots miss the target.

The Nigerians wasted no time in showing they meant business. Ibrahim Muhammad tested Mozambique’s goalkeeper Kimiss Zavala with a strong shot from distance five minutes into the encounter.

Haliru Sarki, Ibrahim Muhammad and Ayuba Abubakar threatened the Mozambican defence several times without finding a breakthrough.

Nigeria took the lead in the 32nd minute when PRO Success Football Academy player Lawal’s ferocious shot beat Zavala.

The second half proved more difficult with Mozambique playing on the break against Nigeria in the U-20 AFCON match.

Substitute Jude Sunday witnessed his powerful effort turned over by Zavala ten minutes into the second half.

Another substitute Adams Olamilekan, who plays for Remo Stars, forced one more save from Kimiss as Nigeria searched for a third.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria finish group A in second place with six points. Ladan Bosso’s boys won two games and lost the other match.

Meanwhile, in the other group fixture of the day, Senegal beat host nation Egypt 4-0 to finish first and also book a quarter final spot. Both Mozambique and Egypt crash out of the tournament.
