Uzodimma calls for stronger grassroots engagement at South-South Summit

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has urged political communicators to adopt a more conversational and people-centred approach in engaging with Nigerians, particularly at the grassroots level.

Speaking yesterday at the South-South Strategic Communications and Mobilisation Summit of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Asaba, the governor said clear communication, active listening and transparency remain key to bridging the gap between government policies and citizensโ€™ everyday realities.

Mr Uzodimma noted that although Nigeria had recorded measurable progress in key economic areas โ€” including GDP growth, increased oil production and improved revenue distribution to states โ€” many Nigerians were yet to feel or fully understand these gains.

He said this disconnect made it essential for communicators to break down government policies into simple, relatable messages that resonate with ordinary citizens.

โ€œThere is still a noticeable gap between these positive developments and the lived experiences of people at the grassroots,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe must simplify our message and engage directly with communities in a way they understand.โ€

The summit, themed โ€œOne Party, One Message, One Mobilisation,โ€ brought together stakeholders across the South-South region to align communication strategies in support of the administration of Bola Tinubu.

Mr Uzodimma commended the spirit of cooperation among leaders in the region, praising Sheriff Oborevwori for hosting the event and Ifeanyi Okowa, the South-South Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, for organising the initiative.

The governor urged members of the group to step up grassroots mobilisation and remain consistent in promoting the Renewed Hope agenda.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening democratic engagement through clear, fact-based communication rather than rhetoric.

The gathering reflects ongoing efforts by the ruling party to refine its messaging and build public trust ahead of future political contests, with a stronger focus on communicating tangible achievements.
