Bayelsa Queens stormed to their sixth Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) title after thrashing Naija Ratels 4–1 in a thrilling season finale.

With the title hanging in the balance, the Prosperity Girls rose to the occasion in Ikenne, sealing their sixth league crown and first since 2022.

Although Nasarawa Amazons were close contenders, their goalless draw against Edo Queens left them trailing by a single point.

Bayelsa’s 10-point finish from five matches ultimately outshone Nasarawa’s tally of nine, ensuring the title headed back to Yenagoa.

From the start, Bayelsa looked determined. Vera Samuel broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. However, Ratels found a brief moment of joy as Itunu Adeshina levelled just before halftime.

Yet, Bayelsa returned after the break with renewed hunger. Just two minutes into the second half, Cynthia Mega fired the team ahead again. Building on that, Samuel grabbed her second in the 61st minute before sealing a stunning hat-trick six minutes later to cap off a statement performance.

Meanwhile, at the same venue, Rivers Angels fought to a 2–1 win over Remo Stars Ladies. Titilayo Aweda’s brace gave the Port Harcourt-based side the victory. Though Aisha Animashaun scored for the hosts, her effort couldn’t change the final standings.

Despite their spirited win, Rivers Angels fell short of a podium finish. They ended the playoffs in fourth place, edged out by Edo Queens on goal difference, even though both teams finished with seven points.

As the curtains fell on an electrifying campaign, individual stars were duly celebrated. Remo Stars Ladies striker Bolaji Olamide clinched the Golden Boot, netting 15 goals in 19 appearances to top the scoring charts.

Moreover, Nasarawa Amazons’ midfield dynamo, Jenat Akekeromowei, earned the Most Valuable Player award. Her consistent brilliance throughout the Super Six tournament stood her out.

With the trophy secured, Bayelsa Queens now turn their focus toward representing Nigeria on the continental stage.
