The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has congratulated Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on his nomination for the 2023 Best FIFA men’s Player award.
Osimhen was named as one of the 12 nominees for this year’s award. The list also includes Osimhen’s Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi and Declan Rice.
Also included on the list are Manchester City players Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan (who has joined Barcelona). PSG forward and Qatar 2022 World Cup finalist Kylian Mbappe made the nominees’ list.

Commenting on Osimhen’s nomination, CAF wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “The man of the hour 🤴.

Victor Osimhen had earlier been shortlisted for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.
The Napoli forward scored 26 goals to help the Series A club win the 2022/23 Scudetto, their first in 33 years. Osimhen also became the first-ever African to win the Serie A Golden Boot.
At the national team level, he became the highest goalscorer in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 10 goals. In his latest Super Eagles match, Osimhen scored a hattrick in Nigeria’s 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome & Principe.
