“We fell short of our values” — Ahmed Musa issues apology after Kano Pillars fans attack Shooting Stars

Kano Pillars General Manager, Ahmed Musa, has issued a heartfelt public apology following the violent scenes that erupted at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, after the club’s 1–1 draw against Shooting Stars SC.

In an emotional statement shared late Sunday, the Super Eagles legend described the incident as “heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable.” He said the attack on match officials and visiting players does not represent the true identity or values of Kano Pillars.

“What transpired against Shooting Stars is painful and disgraceful. It does not reflect who we are as a club,” Musa said.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) had earlier condemned the violence, promising swift sanctions after reviewing official reports. Musa’s apology marks the club’s first major acknowledgment of responsibility since the chaos that saw teargas deployed to disperse angry fans.

“Violence has no place in football,” says Musa

Expressing regret to Shooting Stars’ players, referees, and the league body, Musa said he takes full responsibility for the actions of a section of fans. He emphasised that the club would cooperate fully with authorities to identify and punish those responsible.

“We understand that apologies alone are not enough. Words must be followed by action,” he stated, pledging that internal disciplinary measures would be taken to prevent a repeat of such behaviour.

He further appealed to Pillars supporters to reflect on their passion and channel it positively.

“True support is not through violence but through respect and discipline. This must be a turning point for us,” he added.

Musa also reaffirmed his commitment to restoring trust and respect in Kano Pillars’ name.

“We take full responsibility and will do everything necessary to rebuild the true spirit of football in Kano and across Nigeria,” he concluded.
