There’s something powerful about the conviction in Rio Ferdinand’s voice when he says, “We need Osimhen.” It’s not just a plea; it’s a declaration filled with urgency and hope for a club trying to rediscover its identity.
Manchester United fans, weary of watching their beloved team falter in front of goal, now find themselves aligned with one of their greatest ever defenders – who believes the answer to their crisis lies in a Nigerian forward lighting up the Turkish league.

England and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed his strong desire for the Red Devils to sign Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen. Speaking on his popular podcast, Rio Presents, the former defender’s passionate endorsement of Osimhen has resonated deeply with United supporters online.
“We need Osimhen,” Ferdinand said.
“We need experience. We need someone who knows how to score. We need someone who can come and show these young strikers at Man United how to do it.”
Ferdinand stressed that Osimhen’s presence would bring maturity and composure to the club’s attacking line. He emphasised the importance of recruiting someone proven on the world stage.
“If I’m Man United, I’m making it happen. I want someone who knows their way around the football pitch at the elite level and knows how to score at the elite level consistently.
“Osimhen’s done that. I want [him] here and now! Yes, Osimhen hasn’t played in the Premier League but I don’t care. I think he scores wherever he goes.”
Goals follow Osimhen everywhere he goes
And he’s right. Osimhen’s numbers speak volumes. At Belgian side Sporting Charleroi, he netted 20 goals in 36 appearances, earning a swift move to French club Lille. There, he made an immediate impact, scoring in his first five home games – a record-breaking feat in Ligue 1 – and finishing the season with 18 goals.

Then came his explosive rise in Italy. Napoli snapped him up, and in the 2022/23 season, Osimhen fired the club to its first Scudetto in 33 years. With 26 goals in 32 matches, he emerged as Serie A’s top scorer, becoming the first African player to win the prestigious Capocannoniere award.
After a fallout with Napoli, Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan — and once again, he’s proving unstoppable. With 20 goals in 23 appearances (21 starts), he currently tops the Turkish Super Lig’s scoring chart, closely trailed by Istanbul Basaksehir’s Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek, who has 19 goals.
Victor Osimhen isn’t just a striker — he’s a statement. A fearless forward who delivers regardless of the badge on his chest or the league he’s in. For Manchester United, still searching for their next talisman, Ferdinand’s plea might just be the push the board needs. Because sometimes, the right player doesn’t need Premier League experience – he just needs the ball, a goal, and a little space to write history.
