Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced on Tuesday immediate measures to lower the cost of essential foods by releasing grains from the strategic reserve and distributing them to the people periodically.
He made this declaration while updating various segments of the state on national developments, including government efforts to alleviate hardships.
Governor AbdulRazaq attributed the surge in inflation to the devaluation of the naira, leading to merchants from neighboring countries buying grains from Nigeria at lower prices and reselling them at higher rates in their own countries, particularly in the West African subregion.
