The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled the Policy Meeting on Admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions for Thursday, July 18, 2024.
The meeting, to be chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will be attended by key stakeholders in the education sector.
Attendees will include Heads of regulatory agencies such as the National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Heads of tertiary institutions, and representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
The policy meeting is crucial as it sets the tone for the admission exercise each year, formulates admission guidelines, presents application statistics, evaluates candidates’ performance, and establishes the minimum admission standards for all Nigerian tertiary institutions.

During the meeting, the Registrar will report on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications, while analyzing key performance indicators that could influence government policy on admissions.
Stakeholders will also review issues from the previous year’s admission exercise.
Additionally, the meeting will assess candidates’ performance in the current year’s UTME to determine the minimum admissible score. Last year, stakeholders agreed on the minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The meeting will also finalize the year’s admission requirements, initiate the current year’s admission process, discuss unresolved issues from the previous academic year, and evaluate compliance with existing advisories, suggesting amendments where necessary.
