As a woman, it is no cliche that over the years, the reality of who we are has been continuously misconstrued by society. Most times, these themes are portrayed in movies to either criticize or talk about societal issues. In this movie list, I am recommending movies whose plots and themes surround women- their struggles, lifestyles, wars, and fights against gender inequality. These movies easily inspire women to stand up for themselves and take up roles tagged as impossible for women. This list is not the usual list of movies about self-made women but just movies whose minute details can inspire you as a woman.
Wheel of Time
When I started watching Wheel of Time, its trend of fictional mythology threw me in. With so much suspense yielding with power and a Who is gonna save Us motif, Wheel of Time was my go-to series when its first season was aired in 2021. The concept of Aes Sedai in Wheel of Time is the reason why this movie is on this list.
Aes Sedai is a group of women who were bestowed with the power to keep order in the world. The Aes Sedai were portrayed as a powerful group of women who could channel power through threads from the One Power. Each Aes Sedai had a male Warder with whom they shared a great amount of bond. These men serve as their protectors as they have extraordinary fighting skills. This balances the gender concept as an Aes Sedai is incomplete without her Warder, each one of them is an important half.
Even in the movie, this group of women was confronted by women who saw them as unworthy of power. This group of men was called the Whitecloaks. The Whitecloaks termed their power as sorcery which made more sense to them as the power a woman could have. However, this is a subplot of the series, however themes surrounding gender roles emanated from various scenes of the movie. This movie gives me goosebumps as the army the savior needs to win against women is a company of powerful women.
The Diplomat
The Diplomat will always have a special place in my heart. Katherine Wyler in this Netflix series a U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. Her husband, Hal has also been in the business of business and diplomacy and becomes the Ambassador’s wife. This time, Kate has got the wheel. Will Hal trust his wife’s decision? As a woman, Kate has to navigate the plows of politics, diplomacy, and international relations. Her first task was to stop before it started. As if being an Ambassador was not enough, Kate discovers her ambassadorial role was only a training ground for her to become the Vice President of America.
This series explores the concept of marriage about submission. Can two walk together except they agree? This is a must-watch movie for women in politics.

The Empress
This Netflix series is an adaptation of the true life story of the Austrian Empress, Elisabeth of Bavarian. Before watching the movie and still now, I refused to read the historical account of the plot. I do not want to anticipate the next season of the series. The Empress by the account of the movie was an A factor to her husband, Franz Joseph despite being married to him at the young age of 15. Confronting the stereotypical belief that women are just meant to bear kids for a royal monarch, Elisabeth was able to weigh in her opinions on political matters.
Blink Twice(2024)
Why is Blink Twice on this list? Well, watching Blink Twice, I have realized that women have the willpower to stand up to any means of suppression they face. Whenever they are willing to revolt, they can. If I get into details, I might be spoiling the movie. However, for men who assault women and think they can get scot-free with it because they think women are weak, they have it all wrong. Blink Twice is a thriller about an island getaway where everyone seems to forget things and just dwell on having fun.
Old Guard(2021)
The last one on the list! Old Guard premiered in 2021 ending on a note of expecting another sequel. However, since 2021 fans of this movie like me have been waiting for another sequel diligently. That is just by the way. Now, the real talk! Old Guard is a movie based on a group of immortals led by a woman called Andy. Together, the group protects and saves the world in their shadow.
