Over the years, churches like Living Faith Incorporated, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Christ Embassy and other Petecostal churches are registered as Incorporated Trustees, similar to how other NGOs are registered as “charity organisations”.
With these religious organisations registered as Incorporated Trustees, the founders’ sons, if they are one of the trustees, have the legitimate and legal rights to succeed their fathers as General Overseers.

A typical example is when Archbishop Benson Idahosa died, many of his most senior Pastors were shocked to find out after his death that the church and its estate literally belonged to the Idahosa family.
It was the same trend two years ago when Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo introduced his son Tobi as the successor of KICC, though subtly, and his wife Yemisi Ashimolowo as resident pastor 1 of the same church.
David and Isaac Oyedepo are Daddy Oyedepo’s sons and have been ordained as pastors since 2007. Therefore, if any of his sons succeeds his father, there should not even be an outrage about this.
David, who is the oldest and resident pastor in Ota, is being groomed to take over in case his father is no more, while Isaac in the US, is managing his father’s church in that country.
This is why I was not taken aback when Jimmy Odukoya, who has also been ordained as a pastor, and qualified in the eyes of man and God, is about to succeed his father, Taiwo Odukoya.
In the same vein, all the church lands, universities, schools, printing presses, hotels, filling stations, and other properties are also registered, in most instances, in the General Overseer’s name and his next of kin’s.
Furthermore, if people’s main concern is how Jimmy Odukoya appears in dreads and how he dresses, then I think this is a ridiculous concern.
Men’s wearing dreads, ladies’ wearing trousers and earrings to church or even leaving their hair uncovered are just matter of the times we are in now. I do not in anyway think that those who do so are less spiritual or pious.
In the long run, the problem of succession occurs when human frailty creeps in. So, if the process is that the son or wife should succeed him, and it is already documented, them nobody should fault that. So, that should be the standard.
