Why I had to stay away from too many girls – Singer Lojay

Nigerian singer Lekan Osifeso Junior, better known as Lojay, has opened up about his early assumptions about life as a pop star, admitting that he once saw it as an avenue for womanising.

During an appearance on the I Said What I Said podcast, the “Monalisa” hitmaker shared how his mindset evolved over time. According to him, he later understood that sustaining a successful music career requires a high level of self-control, especially in managing distractions.

“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere. But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline.

“I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls,” he said.

Lojay also spoke about the reality of life in the industry, noting that some of the lifestyles he once admired as an upcoming artist did not live up to his expectations after he gained mainstream success.

He explained that, contrary to public perception, many artists exercise a great deal of discipline, as they are conscious of their public image and the need to protect their reputation.

The singer added that his personal disposition has also played a role in helping him maintain a more disciplined lifestyle compared to some of his peers, particularly when it comes to relationships and spending habits.
