Wizkid: Afrobeats icon credits women for his ability to create music

In November 2024, Nigerian singer-songwriter, Ayodeji Balogun who is better known as Wizkid released his voraciously anticipated studio album, Morayo. A music project profoundly dedicated to his late mother.

In a recent interview, the Afrobeats’ music icon mentioned that his music is predominantly inspired by women.

Wizkid is known for his romantic songs, dedicated to women. His latest album, ā€˜Morayoā€™ is dedicated to his late mum, Morayo Jane Balogun.

The album has broken Tylaā€™s record for the most first week streams for an African album on Spotify with 48 million streams in 6 days.

It has surpassed Tylaā€™s previous record of 46.4 million Spotify streams.

ā€˜Morayoā€™ also set a new record for the biggest opening week for an African album on Spotify with 52.8 million streams.
