YouTube introduced Hype, a feature that helps fans boost their favourite creators’ growth. It highlights videos from creators with under 500,000 subscribers.

Users get three Hypes weekly, with plans to allow more Hypes for purchase. YouTube clarified Hypes wonā€™t affect recommendations or search results, and Premium users don’t have extra Hypes yet.

Hype helps creators find an audience without ads, ranking their videos on a weekly, country-specific leaderboard. It increases exposure and potentially boosts revenue for creators whose videos are frequently Hyped.

To ensure fairness, YouTube added a “small creator bonus,” offering point multipliers to smaller channels for a more balanced competition.

Hype can be defined as a direct message between Watchers and Creators in which content most relevant to the users is promoted. The videos that are considered ā€˜top-hypedā€™ are given a special badge which generates greater interaction between creators and viewers.

Based on the need for fan participation in creatorsā€™ journeys, the term Hype was developed. The audience exclusively gave a poll on YouTube asking them what they expect to get beyond being mere spectators.

Before finalizing the use of Hype, YouTube proposed that fans could comment or contribute towards a videoā€™s Hype in the initial one-day or segment funding. In Beta tests, 5 million Hypes were generated on 50,000 channels.

At the moment, Hype operates in three countries, namely Brazil, Taiwan, and Turkey, thus the company planning to expand to other areas in the future.
