YouTube Music marks 10 years with new features

YouTube Music, celebrating its 10th anniversary this November, announced four new features aimed at enhancing user experience across free and paid tiers.

The platform, which has over 125 million subscribers including YouTube Premium users, will introduce “taste match” playlists, Bandsintown integration, new video badges, and comments on albums and playlists.

The announcement was made through a press release shared by YouTube.

Taste match playlists will update daily, curating music from the listening histories of subscribed users to introduce fresh songs based on shared interests. This feature is designed to expand discovery in a communal way.

The Bandsintown integration will notify users when artists featured in music videos, Shorts, or Artist Channels are performing nearby. It will also alert fans to new releases, merchandise, and event schedules.

YouTube is also expanding its “badges” program by introducing new recognitions tied to music video view milestones. Artists will now be awarded badges for achievements such as reaching 100,000, one million, or one billion views.

In addition, YouTube confirmed that album and playlist comment sections are in development. This will replicate the community interaction seen on music videos, although no launch date has been specified.

As YouTube Music continues to compete with rivals like Apple Music and Spotify, the company stressed its commitment to growing engagement through these interactive features. A spokesperson noted that “community-driven tools remain central to how people connect with music.”

YouTube Music is accessible on iOS, Android, and web platforms. Subscription costs remain $10.99 per month, or $13.99 as part of YouTube Premium.
