Nollywood star Yvonne Jegede has challenged a statement made by Pastor Femi Lazarus, the leader of Light Nation Church in Abuja.
The actress criticized the pastor’s public comments about women’s periods and the reason behind their shifts in mood.
The entire incident played out online, beginning with a video clip from the pastor’s sermon that recently went viral and continuing with the actress’s strong response shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday.
The exact date of the sermon itself is not known.

Pastor Lazarus created a wave of criticism when he said in his sermon that a woman’s mood changes during her period were not caused by her body’s biology but were instead a sign of a bad or unpeaceful manner.
The pastor explained that women are not the first to have their periods, and since there are no complaints of menstrual pain recorded in the Bible, a woman who blames her attitude on her period must simply be unpeaceful.
He said: “You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”
Yvonne Jegede used social media to directly counter the religious leader’s claims.
She strongly advised men to avoid making strong pronouncements about matters they have never personally gone through.
She pointed specifically to the natural hormonal changes women experience during their monthly cycles, ovulation, and pregnancy.
The actress made the point that because the pastor has never dealt with these physical changes, he should not speak about them as fact.
She finished by asking men to show kindness and understanding.
She wrote, “Yesterday I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivialising menstrual pain.
“If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes that women go through during their periods, ovulations and pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men please be kind.”
