Zubair names 20-man squad as Flying Eagles arrive Togo for WAFU B U20 Championship

Charles Agada, Nasiru Salihu, and Kparobo Arierhi are among the 20 players that will represent Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at this year’s WAFU B U20 Championship which kicks off in Lome, Togo on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the list of players was released by Head Coach Aliyu Zubair and announced by the NFF communications department, with a copy obtained by NRTC.

The championship serves as a qualifying tournament for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

In a related development, the national U20 team players alongside 12 officials arrived Lome on Tuesday ahead of their opening game against Burkina Faso on Friday.

Before jetting out of Nigeria, the team had an intensive, one-week training camp at the Remo Stars Training Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Owner of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Remo Stars, Hon. Kunle Soname has promised the Flying Eagles 5 million naira if they are able to successfully defend their title in Togo. Before leaving Ikenne, Soname also gave the team the sum of 1 million naira on Monday.

Flying Eagles observe first session

Meanwhile, as reported by Nigerian sports journalist @Mike_ThePundit, the Flying Eagles had their first training session at the Omnisport mini stadium in Lome today. Mike confirmed the training lasted for one hour and 30 minutes with all 20 players involved.

He also reported that there is no injury concern “as all players are declared fit by the medical team.”

The Flying Eagles won the last edition of the WAFU B U20 Championship hosted by Niger Republic.

After playing Burkina Faso, Nigeria will also face Cote dā€™Ivoire in a three-team Group B, with the two best teams to reach the semi finals.

Group A has hosts Togo, Niger Republic and Benin Republic, and Ghana.

Goalkeepers: Ebenezer Harcourt (Sporting Lagos); Nathaniel Nwosu (Nasarawa United).

Defenders: Adamu Maigari (El-Kanemi Warriors); Daniel Bameyi (Bayelsa United); Kenneth Igboke (Enugu Rangers); Haruna Aliyu (Doma United); Musa Adamu (Wireless FC); Olalekan Alabi (El-Kanemi Warriors).

Midfielders: Raphael Oyebanjo (Shuffle Select FC); Muhammad Ibrahim (Niger Tornadoes); Oluwaseyi Akinfenwa (Real Sapphire FC); Ibrahim Abdullahi (Bayelsa United); Isaac Ayuma (NK Istra, Croatia); Nasiru Salihu (El-Kanemi Warriors).

Forwards: Divine Oliseh (Forster FC); Charles Agada (Mavlon FC); Kparobo Arierhi (Beyond Limits FC); Olalekan Amole (Real Sapphire FC); Olalekan Ibrahim (Central Academy); Clinton Jephta (Enyimba FC).
