Industrialization: Ondo State Open To Investors, says Governor


In a bid to foster industrialization in Ondo State, Governor Akeredolu has called upon investors across the globe to invest in the state.

The Governor made this call during the commissioning of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Plaza, in Lekki, Lagos State on 29 June. There he called on genuine investors, declaring that the Sunshine State is open for business.

The Governor commissioned the edifice as a mark of honour in recognition of his effort in industrialization and investment. The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, and other dignitaries were in attendance.

The Governor’s Address

Akeredolu appreciated the NBCC for honouring him, saying that he will always cherish the opportunity. While speaking, the Governor explained that Ondo State is undergoing industrialization. He also noted that his state and the British used to be partners in the production and supply of cocoa. Akeredolu stated that the UK today, imports less than 1% of its cocoa from Africa. The Governor assured all that the state will once again, take its rightful position in cocoa production.

ā€œIn our own time, Ondo State has started the process of real industrialization. We have many industries that we are working on. The last one we did was called the Red Gold, and that has to do with our palm plantation. We have the industrial park, we are also working to revive cocoa production. We will soon become partners. Ondo State is open for business and serious investment.ā€

ā€œToday, we have Industrial Park, all of them on Ore axis. Today we have a Cocoa Village around Owo in Ijugbere, where we are planting over 10,000 hectares of cocoa to revive the industry.

ā€œWe want to believe that in no time we will become partners again and work together with the British government. We are ready to work even though NBCC and other business mogulsā€ The Governor further emphasized.

The British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos felicitated with the conveners for the laudable endeavour. He promised to continue supporting the Chamber.

NBCC’s President and Chairman of Council, Mr. Kayode Falowo, revealed that Ondo State is supportive of the Chamber. He assured the attendees that the Chamber will continue to work with the Ondo State government in ensuring that the state becomes a destination of choice for global investment.

Mr. Falowo mentioned that the plaza is not just a building but a multipurpose one, with necessary contemporary facilities. He explained that he had promised to achieve it during his tenure, and defines the project as a promise fulfilled.
