Nigeria presently haveĀ 24,567 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Below is the latest update from the Presidential Task Force on the dreaded virus.

FG explains the reason for low COVID-19 death rate in Nigeria

The Federal Government has explained the reasons for the low death rate from COVID-19 complications after recording only 565 deaths so far.

According to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), this is because of prevalence of the disease among the younger generation.

Speaking during a news briefing on Monday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the PTF, Mr Boss Mustapha, said around 80% of the infected persons were between the ages of 31 and 40 years old.

He noted that the age bracket mentioned is able to surmount the disease because of their levels of energy and little or no underlying health issues.

Buhari okays resumption of domestic flights

President Muhamadu Buhari has given the go-ahead for resumption of domestic flight operations across the nation.

Mustapha who also disclosed this on MondayĀ  said the president considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTFĀ  and accordingly approved, with the exception of some modifications to be expantiated upon later.

Phase Two of the eased lockdown has been extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 through Midnight of Monday, 27 July, 2020.

Nigeria in the last 24 hours recorded 490 cases with Lagos, the epicenter having 118 new cases. Others are Delta-84, Ebonyi-68, FCT-56, Plateau-39, Edo-29, Katsina-21, Imo-13, Ondo-12, Adamawa-11, Osun-8, Ogun-8, Rivers-6, Kano-5, Enugu-3, Bauchi-3, Akwa Ibom-3, Kogi-1, Oyo-1, and Bayelsa – 1.
