Angry mob set man ablaze for blasphemy in Abuja


An angry mob has set a man ablaze for alleged blasphemy in Lugbe, Abuja.

According to reports gathered, the angry mob set the man, a yet-to-be identified security officer ablaze for speaking against Allah.

The lynching took place on Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022; at the Lugbe Timber Shed, along Airport Road in Abuja following an argument over alleged blasphemy.

The disheartening video of the lynching was published on the microblogging site, Twitter by a netizen identified as Uncle Deji.

Police reportedly arrived at the scene and fired shots to disperse the crowd that had gathered to watch the man burn.

Unfortunately, the victim could not be rescued.

It was gathered that members of the vigilance group guarding the Timber shed market at the Federal Housing Estate in Abuja had wanted to arrest some residents wandering around the market in the early hours of Saturday.

The residents were said to have begged the vigilance group to free them in the name of Allah but one of the vigilantes kicked and made comments said to be blasphemous.

A trader in the market who spoke to our correspondent in confidence said the vigilante was beaten and stoned before he was set ablaze.
