English Premier League Weekend Round Up

Premier League

The race for the top four of the English Premier League continues to hot up as Chelsea and Leicester City returned to winning ways.

Chelsea 3 – Watford 0

The Blues added to the misery of struggling Watford at Stamford Bridge when they hammered them 3-0. After suffering a 3-2 defeat at West Ham during the week.

Frenchman, Olivier Giroud scored the opening goal for the hosts when he latched on to Ross Barkley’s clever pass with his left foot into the bottom-right corner.

Willian doubled Chelsea’s lead from the penalty spot before the break, after Etienne Capoue fell Christian Pulisic in the box.

Few days after signing a professional contract at Arsenal. Bukayo Saka rewarded his manager – Mikel Arteta with a well taken goal against in-form Wolves at the Molineux. Thereby, helping his team to a 2-0 win over Nuno Espirito’s men.

The teenage forward put Arsenal ahead in the first half by volleying in Kieran Tierney’s cross.

Alexandre Lacazette put the icing on the cake in the second half with a coolly taken goal. Which helps keep Arsenal’s hope of a European place alive.

Manchester United 5 – Bournemouth 2

Teenage striker, Mason Greenwood also rewarded Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s faith in him. Greenwood scored a brace against Bournmouth at Old Trafford to help his team to a 5-2 win over Bournemouth.

The 18-year-old striker restored parity for the Red Devils after Bournemouth went in front through Junior Stanislas’ shock 15th-minute opener.

The teenager also scored Manchester United’s fourth goal of the game with a superb effort in the second half, beating Diego Rico on the edge of the area.

Fernandes celebrate goal against Bournemouth

Marcus Rashford also shared in the goals when he scored from the penalty spot to give Man United 2-1 up. Anthony Martial’s brilliant curling effort took the team 3-1 up into the second half.

Joshua King reduced the visitors’ deficit via the penalty spot four minutes into the second half. They could have equalised but Arnaut Danjuma’s goal was ruled out for offside.

January signing, Bruno Fernandes showed his mettle once again by scoring United’s fifth goal with a nicely taken free-kick from the edge of the area.

Leicester City 3 – Crystal Palace 0

It was Jamie Vardy’s day as he joined the hundred club after scoring a brace for the Foxes to maintain the third spot on the Premier League table.

Kelechii Ihenacho also found the back of the net for the hosts in between Vardy’s goals.

Norwich Vs. Brighton: 0 – 1

Leandro Trossardā€™s fine first-half goal gave Brighton the victory that moves them ever closer to Premier League safety … and nudges Norwich further towards relegation.

This was a huge three points for Brighton, who are surely safe for another year in the Premier League. A deserved win for Brighton, even if they were hanging on a bit at the end, and enjoyed a huge slice of good fortune when Idahā€™s header hit the post.

Burnley Vs. Sheffield United: 1 – 1

John Egan scored with 10 minutes to go to earn Sheffield United a draw at fellow European hopefuls Burnley.

The defender struck a rising half-volley into the far top corner of the net after a short corner had been swung into the box and flicked on by Billy Sharp.

It was reward for a positive display from the Blades, who pressed forward for much of the second half after James Tarkowski had given the home side the lead with a sliding close-range finish.

Newcastle Vs. West Ham: 2 – 2

Jonjo Shelvey denied West Ham United a crucial victory in their fight for Premier League survival as Newcastle United twice came from behind to snatch a point.

The Hammers, who boosted their hopes with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Chelsea in midweek, led 1-0 and 2-1 at St James’ Park, but eventually emerged with only a point to show for their efforts in a 2-2 draw.

Michail Antonio’s fourth-minute strike was cancelled out by Miguel Almiron and Tomas Soucek’s 24 minutes from time by Jonjo Shelvey just seconds later with the Magpies stubbornly defending an unbeaten league run which now stretches to six games.

Liverpool Vs. Aston Villa: 2 – 0

Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones scored in the last 20 minutes of a hard fought victory as the champions extended their run of home Premier League victories to 24 games.

Liverpool move to 89 points on the table with victory over Aston Villa. Sadio Mane scored the first, and young substitute Curtis Jones sealed victory with a couple of minutes remaining.
