The English Premier League resumes with much excitement as clubs have been engaged in different activities to ensure adequate preparedness for a highly anticipated 2022/2023 EPL season.
We take a look at some of the top Nigerian players to watch in the upcoming English topflight campaign.
5. Alex Iwobi
The midfielder was a regular for Everton last season and played an important role in helping the Toffees avoid relegation during the closing stages of a tough campaign.
Iwobi joined the Merseyside outfit from Arsenal in 2019 and has already garnered more than 80 appearances for the club.
A decent midfielder in his own right, manager Frank Lampard will be banking on the player’s experience, energy, incisive passes and overall abilities in the new season.
The 26-year-old won the FA Cup title in 2017 with Arsenal and has scored 10 goals in 59 outings for the Super Eagles of Nigeria
4. Kelechi Iheanacho
Seniorman Kelz, as he is fondly called, has been one of the outstanding members of Brendan Rodgersā team over the last couple years.
His most successful time at the King Power Stadium was the 2020/21 season, when his goals helped the Foxes clinch their first FA Cup title in their 137-year history.
At 25, the former Manchester City man has a very bright future ahead of him and Rodgers will be seeking to exploit the young playerās potentials to full effect in the coming season.
3. Joseph Ayodele-Aribo
Popularly known as Joe Aribo, he helped Rangers reach last seasonās UEFA Europa league final, scoring the opening goal of the match even though his team eventually lost to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Due to his scintillating performances for The Gers, Southamption snapped him up this summer on a four-year contract.
The 26-year-old is very versatile and technically sound. He can play across the wide and central midfield roles and will surely be a key player for Ralph HasenhĆ¼ttlās team.
2. Taiwo Awoniyi
Awoniyi is definitely one of the Nigerian players to watch in the 2022/23 EPL season.
The lanky forward joined newly promoted side Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin in June and will be the clubās number one striker heading into the new campaign.
During his successful spell at the German club, he scored 15 league goals in 31 appearances last term and remains Unionās record goalscorer in Bundesliga history with 17 goals.
The goal poacher is a player to keep an eye on throughout the season as he will be very instrumental to a Forest side that returned to the top flight for the first time since 1999.
1. Wilfred Ndidi
After moving to Leicester City in 2017, the combative midfielder has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Ndidiās reading of the game and his timely tackles are very impeccable and exceptional.
His energetic displays at the middle of the park are a major reason why the Foxesā fans are very excited about the midfielderās return after several months on the sidelines due to injury.
He has appeared for the Super Eagles of Nigeria over the years and Nigerian fans can testify to the calmness and brilliance of the 25-year-old whenever he is on the pitch.
Without an iota of doubt, Leicester have a gem on their hands and evidently, he’s going to be an influential figure for the 2016 Premier League winners in the 2022/23 EPL season.
