The art of dancing is an age long practice. It involves moving your body to the rhythm of sound.
Dance is often accompanied by music and it is enjoyed when the beat is in line with what the performer wants.
There are dance performances that may not necessarily require music. In this article, I will be highlighting the benefits and advancement of dance.
Dancing to Entertain
In Nigeria, there has been a lot of dance competitions that have gathered many participants and millions of viewers across the country.
Celebrity Takes 2 was a dance competition among celebrities (with their instructors) which thrilled its audience many years back. With Funlola Aofiyebi (and Bimbo Obafunwa as instructor) winning the first edition in 2008, many persons embraced the dance show.
Stella Damasus won the second edition with her dance partner, Wale Shodade (Wale Rubber). The Celebrity Takes 2 dance competition was curated by the dance instructors of Spirit of David. A dance company managed by Segun Lawal.
Other dance competitions that served as a form of entertainment include; Maltina Dance All, Malta Guiness Street Dance, and Dance with Peter.
Dancing for Fitness
Dance is also a form of exercise. Most often used by individuals who are in search of fitness in order to stay healthy.
Dancing Empowers
Dance was never seen as a lucrative job, neither was it seen as an admirable profession in the past. However, times have changed!
Fast forward to today. Dancing is studied as a subject, explored as an art, and also can provide a rewarding career.
Dancers across the globe now garner as much publicity as in any other art. A dancing career also now command handsome pay figures. From dancing in musical videos, to performing in advertorials, and creating major events solely for dance. The art is here to stay.
