Six remanded for stealing cosmetic

Supreme Court

Six men have been remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over allegedly stealing cosmetics valued at N900m.

The defendants were, Michael Okwu, Akinmade Oluwaseyi, Emmanuel Igbru, Michael Peter, Bright Ogungbeje and Kingsley Onobrakpeya.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro in his ruling on Monday remanded them after pleading not guilty to the three counts, conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods, filed against them by the Tincan Island Police Command, Apapa, Lagos State.

The prosecutor, Mr. A. J. Dagbo, told the court that the defendants and others committed the offences between June 19 and 21, 2022, at Tincan Island Container Terminal, Nigerian Ports Authority, Tincan Island Port, Apapa, Lagos.

Dagbo said they contrived and stole nine containers housing cosmetics, such as body cream, face soap, vaseline, and other valuable items.

The prosecutor specifically accused Ogungbeje and Onobrakpeya of receiving and using an MV Aquilla tugboat to convey the nine stolen containers housing the cosmetics from Peter on June 22, 2022, to an unknown destination.

However, the defendants denied the allegations.
