Remote Work: How to maintain fitness while working from home


The 21st century has made work now easier for people, most especially, those who engage in remote work in the tech space.

Most of the time these people work from home or find workstations where they can have access to electricity and data at a fixed amount.Ā 

This has programmed a lot of people into living unhealthy lives. Being stationed in a place for long hours is not beneficial to the human body.Ā

Our body parts are meant to exercise regularly to keep us fit. We are going to be exploring some things to help maintain fitness while working from home. 

  1. Set Alarm to Get up Every Hour

Thereā€™s a tendency to get carried away while working by sitting down in a place for too long. By sitting in a place for too long, you put yourself at an increased risk for obesity, high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes. 

To avoid this,  set an alarm that will always remind you to take a break. While taking a break, you can take a stroll around the environment, take some quick jumps, or take a nap. This will help in boosting your energy and help your heart also. 

  1. Get a Standing Desk 

A standing desk will help boost your productivity.

According to the Center for Biotechnology Information, you burn over 170 additional calories while standing while working.

Also, almost 1000 extra calories are burned each week by simply standing at your desk each afternoon while working.Ā 

Getting a standing desk will also help in reducing back pain from long hours of sitting in one place. This will also help boost your productivity and energy level.Ā 

  1. Drink a lot of Water

Drinking a lot of water while working will help you fight weakness and fatigue while working. Staying hydrated will better help you in mental performance and cognition. 

This is much needed while working as it helps you to maintain focus on the tasks at hand. You can easily get a transparent water bottle, if possible with the liters written on it, to show the amount of water you have taken in a day.Ā 

  1. Create a working playlist 

Listening to background music will help boost your productivity and keep you fit while working from home. 

You can achieve this by creating a working playlist that suits you while working. Select songs that help keep you in the flow while working. 

Lookout for song lyrics that help you stay motivated. Music is therapy, and it also helps boost your immune system.
