Bookworms Distraught as US Authorities Seize Z-Library Domains

Z-library is a popular bookstore well-known for pirated books. Users can download any book for free as long as it’s available. On Friday, the site suddenly became inaccessible. Book Twitter soon went agog, comparing it to the burning of the Library of Alexandria.

Z-Library had more than 10 million e-books and 86 million articles on its domains. An unregistered user could download up to 5 articles a day. However, registered users were entitled to download more books than the limit. Authors have been very particular about their critique of the library. Anyone can wake up and decide to download any e-book without any compensation for the authors.

When you log into the website, This message will pop up: “This domain has been seized by the United States Postal Inspection Service in accordance with a court order.” Some readers have also reported seeing messages citing a server block issue.

Why was the library seized?

The US government, through the United States Postal Inspection Service, confiscated Z-Library’s domains, as well as all of its DNS servers. Just a week ago, TikTok blocked all hashtags connected to the site. It has also been said that the tip was given on TikTok, where the site has gained popularity.

Z-library initially started out as Library Genesis. Since gaining popularity, it switched to what is now known and Z-library. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, its users have more than doubled.
