Nigeriaās presidential election is about three months away. Many people have pitted their tents with their preferred candidates, including celebrities. The decision of some people has either won them more love, hatred, or consistent bullying online. Let us take a look at some celebs who have been bullied over their political choice.
Mr Macaroni
Skit maker and actor, Debo Adedayo, aka Mr Macaroni, has been under attack since he declared his support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Macaroni wrote in August 2022, āI went to visit my mother two weeks ago. I was giving out money to some people in the neighbourhood as I always do anytime I go home. A woman walked up to me and asked why I am against a particular candidate. I said I am not against anyone. All I want is for a better country.
āThat can only happen when we vote for good leaders. The next thing she said is that I should better watch myself because they know where my people live. I asked if that was a threat and she continued saying all sorts. My sister and manager were with me and I have a video!ā
Some months later, he openly endorsed Obi. On November 5, 2022, Macaroni said, āI do not and will not campaign for politicians. I cannot force or beg any Nigerian to vote for a particular candidate but come 2023, the person that I will cast my vote for is Peter Obi! And that is final on this matter!! Enough is Enough!ā
Mercy Johnson-Okojie
On December 7, 2022, actress, Mercy Johnson, declared her support for the All Progressives Congress. It is pertinent to note that her husband, Odi Okojie, is contesting for a membership of the House of Representatives in Edo State. The mother-of-four wrote on her social media pages, āEarlier today, I joined His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the incredible women leaders that make up the APC āWomen Presidential Campaign Teamā at the APC women Southwest rally.
āAs a woman, wife to an APC candidate, Prince Odi Okojie, and mother, I am confident in the APC plan for women which is in line with the 35 percent affirmative action for women.

āFrom the goodwill messages and conversations with the women leaders, I was opportune to hear from the horseās mouth and I have renewed hope and confidence in the good intentions, great plans and actions to follow for the women of Nigeria and for the people of Nigeria.ā
Several people condemned her political choice but her husband stood by her. He commented on her page, āMy dear wife and best friend. Thanks a lot for your support. You have always stood where I stand. You are an amazing woman. We will work hard for Nigeria.ā
Cross Okonkwo
The decision of a former Big Brother Naija housemate, Cross Okonkwo, to endorse the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, did not go down well with some people. He has also described the former Vice President as his father.
In an interview with The Punch on July 3, 2022, Okonkwo said, āI have known him (Atiku) for many years. When I did not have anywhere to go, he took me in. He has also taken care of me to an extent. I know him very well and I believe he means well for the youth. I also think he is the best presidential candidate. I was attacked after I made that tweet (about Atiku being my father), and I wondered why.ā
Brymo
Singer, Olawale Oloforo, aka Brymo, threw his weight behind the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Twitter on May 31, 2022. A Twitter user, Ochikolota Umunwanyi wrote, āThis Jagaban (Tinubu) candidacy has truly helped me see that so many Nigerians actually donāt care about purposeful or diligent leadership.ā
Then, Brymo commented, āYet, he (Tinubu) is the one with a plan and we all know that. Let a city boy be president for once! I have never met the man or anyone who represents or is acquainted with him, or even his relations and political affiliates. We should stop trying to kill them off for being old.ā
The singer was condemned for his political choice. However, he was not deterred as he has continued to speak about his support for the former Lagos State governor.
Okey Bakassi
Popular comedian, Okechukwu Onyegbule, aka Okey Bakassi, was also criticised for his decision to support Obi. He tweeted on August 1, 2022, āI donāt want Atiku or Tinubu to fail, I just want Nigeria to succeed. I will support and vote for Peter Obi to fix Nigeria, so that in their old age, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu wonāt be going to London for medical treatment and Atiku wonāt live in Dubai. #SaveNigeria.ā
Some people who opposed his political choice ‘bashed’ the ace comedian but he continued to reiterate his decision to support Obi.
