South African billionaire, Elon Musk has announced he will step down as chief executive of Twitter Inc. once a replacement is found.
The announcement follows a poll in which Musk asked platform users whether he should stay in the position.
It resulted in 57.5% of the millions of votes saying he shouldn’t continue his role.
Musk’s announcement came after weeks of controversy surrounding the social media platform, and a growing number of calls for his resignation.

Since he became CEO at the end of October, Twitter has seen a series of scandals surrounding mass layoffs, the restoration of Donald Trump’s account; the platform’s blue check marks, and most recently, the suspension of several high-profile US journalists.
