Premier League outfit Liverpool have reached an agreement with Eredivisie side PSV for the services of Dutch international Cody Gakpo.

PSV confirmed the agreement with the Reds via their verified Twitter account on Monday night.

According to the statement released on PSV’s official website, Gakpo will now “leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.”

It was also revealed that both teams involved in the transfer of the player will not be “making any announcements about the transfer fee.” According to PSV general manager Marcel Brands, the deal is a transfer record for the Dutch giants.

The 23-year-old forward, who helped Netherlands to the quarter finals of the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar, has been in tremendous form for club and country in recent times.

Gakpo’s valuation increased following a brilliant World Cup outing. The striker netted three times in five games.

NRTC understands that Manchester United had shown interest in the services of the player in the summer before chasing a deal for former Ajax winger Antony.

Prior to PSV’s statement tonight, it was understood the Reds were in advanced discussion with PSV about the transfer. The reason for the Gakpo deal is not far fetched – he comes in as an attacking option following long term injuries to forwards Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

Meanwhile, Liverpool climbed to sixth in the Premier League table after a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
