COVID-19 stops mass gathering for Eid-El-Kabir prayers

Unfortunately, COVID-19 stopped mass gathering for Sallah prayers. But here are some of the Sallah messages from the Presidency Governors and some lawmakers to make your day memorable.

Sallah Messages from Various Leaders

I wish all Muslims a happy and fulfilling Eid El Kabir celebration. We can create the greatest impact by putting into practice the noble teachings of our religion. We must put the fear of God in our daily activities in order to make our society better.

I would like to call on Muslims and other faithfuls to continue to show more understanding with the government as we take steps to protect our people through social distancing and other guidelines.

The guidelines are dictated by necessity in order to safeguard public health, and should not be perceived as an infringement on people’s right to worship. These are challenging times for the entire world; COVID-19 has had a devastating adverse impact on every aspect of our lives.

The preventive guidelines we have introduced to contain the spread of the Coronavirus have unfortunately limited people’s freedom to gather & worship in large numbers in Mosques and Churches. I call for continued patience & understanding from all. We will overcome this pandemic.

Eid Mubarak!

President Muhammadu Buhari

Lagos Governor Sanwoolu
President Buhari
Governor Abiodun

Traditionally, Eid-el-Kabir is marked with fanfare, where thousands of worshippers head to various designated praying grounds in their localities for special Eid prayer, followed by festive gatherings, visits to families and friends, gift exchanges, feasts among friends, neighbours, and relations.

However, these activities, which are a reflection of joy and happiness of the season, cannot hold this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Let us reflect on the last four to five months of our lives as individuals, as a state, and as a nation. We should also remember our health care workers and thousands of COVID-19 patients who would have loved to be at home to celebrate with us at this moment.

Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

We need to intensify efforts to flatten the curve of community spread of the virus and pray fervently for vaccine and cure for the dreaded pandemic.

In the view of the ā€œnew normalā€, imposed by COVID-19, we should celebrate modestly and be somber as we worship Allah in our respective homes with our close family members.

It is only through the love for one another and commitment to peace, security, and stability that the country can progress towards the fulfillment of its great potentials as a nation.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun

Governor Fayemi
Senator Kalu

We can collectively confront our challenges as a nation and build a truly peaceful and prosperous Nigeria by acknowledging the supremacy of God, demonstrating genuine love and respect for one another and commitment to peaceful co-existence.

It is only through love for one another and commitment to peace, security, and stability that the country can progress towards the fulfillment of its great potentials as a nation.

I extend warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large as they celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival. Eid-el-Kabir is an occasion to celebrate the love of God. It is a season of charity, making peace and celebration of our common heritage as Godā€™s children.

ā€œAlthough we are constrained in celebrating this yearā€™s festival, we must not forget to reach out to the poor and the needy among us in line with Godā€™s injunction to be our brotherā€™s keeper.

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi

The important Islamic festival teaches us the value of sacrifice and selflessness to one another, irrespective of our perceived differences ā€“ religious, tribal, ethnic, political, cultural, among others.

In the end, we are all human beings and its humane to look out for ourselves, particularly the disadvantaged and less-privileged around us. We must, therefore, resist and reject divisive elements who try to spread hate and intolerance, instead of harmony and peaceful coexistence. Their intentions are myopic, self-serving, unprogressive, and evil.

As the Muslim Ummah celebrate the festival, the party urged all to stay safe and observe public health protocols, including safe distancing ā€œbecause the Coronavirus (COVID-19) remains a deadly pandemic.

The All Progressives Congress (APC)

I extend warm greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of this yearā€™s Eid-el-Kabir.

This period provides an opportunity to remember the submission of Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) to Allah, by which he taught the world the value of sacrifice in relating to one another. We must endeavor to sacrifice for others in our daily lives. In our pursuits, let us demonstrate the spirit of forgiveness, togetherness, tolerance, and patriotism.

Nigeriaā€™s diversity should be seen as a blessing and as such, it is important to shun violence and other social vices.

We must embrace peace and harmony regardless of our cultural, ethnic, and religious differences. Let use this season to pray for leaders at all levels of government for the sake of national well being.
