Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, on Wednesday expressed astonishment in response to Bola Tinubu’s call from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Blinken is reported to have highlighted during the phone his ongoing commitment to furthering the US-Nigeria relationship with the new government.

Tinubu’s recognition by the American government official, according to Atiku, who finished second in the presidential election held on February 25, is in conflict with how the US views the election that took place three months prior.
“I am in disbelief that @SecBlinken called Tinubu, a contradiction to the publicly stated position of the US on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election,” the former vice president tweeted.
“This is inconceivable considering that America, as the bastion of democracy, is well briefed on the sham election of February 25.
“To give legitimacy to the widely acknowledged fraudulent election in Nigeria can be demoralising to citizens who have hedged their bet on democracy and the sanctity of the ballot @StateDept @POTUS @USinNigeria.”
