Manchester City have been officially confirmed as the 2022-23 English Premier League champions after Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
Arsenal needed to win against Forest to keep a slim hope of winning the Premier League title alive but succumbed to a 19th minute Taiwo Awoniyi strike.
The Gunners have played 37 league matches while City have 35 games in the bag. However, the north London club remain four points behind the champions.
Forest’s victory means Steve Cooper’s side have secured safety from relegation and will compete in the Premier League next season.

Manchester City have been a devastating team this season with top striker Erling Haaland leading the charge with 36 league goals. The Norwegian has broken the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season which was held by Mohamed Salah (33 goals).
Arsenal, meanwhile have been a complete revelation under Mikel Arteta. The side led the table for most of the season but somehow managed to fumble towards the end of the campaign, surrendering the lead at the top.
Trust Pep Guardiola to take full advantage with his charges. The Cityzens are celebrating a third consecutive league title and fifth in six years, demonstrating utter dominance by the Spanish manager.
Manchester City are still very much alive in the race for a treble. Guardiola’s team will hope to win both the Champions League and FA Cup finals coming up in June.
Only Manchester United (in 1998-99)Ā have previously achieved that feat.
City with amazing records this season
Manchester City are only the fifth club to win three straight top-flight titles in England. They follow the path of Huddersfield Town (1924-26), Arsenal (1933-35), Liverpool (1982-84) and Manchester United. The Red Devils did it twice under Sir Alex Ferguson (1999-2001 and 2007-09).
City’s title victory is the third occasion Guardiola has managed to win three consecutive league titles. He did it in the La Liga with Barcelona from 2009 to 2011 and in the Bundesliga from 2014 to 2016 with Bayern Munich.
Their Premier League dominance of five titles in six campaigns was last achieved by Manchester United between 1996 and 2001. United also won the Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the 2000-01 season.
Manchester United dominated the Premier League between 1993 and 2001, winning seven titles in nine seasons. The Old Trafford club also claimed five titles in seven campaigns between 2007 and 2013.
Arsenal’s brilliant run ends with no trophy
Following a brilliant season – one of their best in nearly two decades – Arsenal will end the 2022-23 football season without a single trophy.
Mikel Arteta managed to create a crop of brilliant, young players who have entertained us in the Premier League.
The Gunners produced fantastic performances this season and led for so long during the campaign.

Martin Ćdegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus formed the core of a team that almost led Arsenal to a first Premier League title in 19 years.
Back-to-back draws and other disappointing results in the last ten games saw Arsenal slip when it mattered most. However, this season will be remembered as one of their best in a very long time. There are a lot of positives to take away anyway.
Arsenal are able to secure Champions League football once again after being out for a while and now, they can look forward to a very promising future.
