Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have condoled with the family of the owner of Daar Communications, AIT, and Ray Power FM, Raymond Dokpesi who died on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Jonathan described the death of the veteran media entrepreneur as a shocking passing, saying he was a philanthropist who took the art of giving and human relations to a new level.
He added that Dokpesi played politics that promoted friendship, ethnic cohesion, and national unity — would be remembered for his works of charity, devotion to faith, and inspiring leadership, especially serving as a trailblazer who pioneered private broadcasting and played a major role in advancing media freedom in Nigeria.

Jonathan said: “This evening, I paid a condolence visit to the family of Engr. Raymond Dokpesi to convey my condolences on the shocking passing of the accomplished entrepreneur, media mogul, and renowned humanitarian who died on Monday in Abuja.
“He was a successful businessman and philanthropist who took the art of giving and human relations to a new level.
“As a patriot and politician, he exemplified the virtues of loyalty, justice, and service. A team player and bridge builder, High Chief Dokpesi played the kind of politics that promoted friendship, ethnic cohesion, and national unity.

“He will be remembered for his works of charity, devotion to his faith, and inspiring leadership, especially serving as a trailblazer who pioneered private broadcasting and played a major role in advancing media freedom in Nigeria.”
In the same vein, Atiku Abubakar said he was still in shock that Dokpesi was no more, saying not on a date like this the business mogul should leave.
Atiku prayed for his eternal rest and the strength for the family left behind to bear the loss.
“I am in a state of shock! As we say in Islam: from God, we came, and to Him, we return. I am in prayers and will continue in prayers! My everlasting and deepest condolences to the Raymond Dokpesi family. May God forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest. Ezemo, not on a date like this should you leave us! -AA.”

However, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said he was saddened about the passing of the true titan of the media industry.
Sanwo-Olu described his loss as an immense blow to Nigeria, noting that he left behind a legacy of breaking barriers and serving his community.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a true titan of the media industry.
“His loss is an immense blow to Nigeria. My heart goes out to his grieving family, as well as the entire AIT and Raypower FM teams. May they find solace and strength in this difficult time.
“High Chief Raymond Dokpesi was a trailblazer. His establishment of the first private radio station, Ray Power FM, paved the way for countless privately-owned media outlets in Nigeria.
“His dedication to his profession and job creation in the media sector will be cherished. He leaves behind a legacy of breaking barriers and serving his community.
“May his legacy inspire future generations to strive for excellence in the media sector”, Sanwo-Olu added.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and associates during this time of mourning.”
