According to the Times Higher Educationās inaugural Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) University Rankings, Covenant University has emerged in the 7th position in Sub-Saharan Africa and the No. 1 in Nigeria.
The results were disclosed during an exuberant unveiling ceremony held in Accra on June 26 by Times Higher Education.
The rankings employ a hybrid methodology, assessing key pillars such as resources, access, teaching, student engagement, and Africa impact.
Professor Peter Okebukola, Chairman of the Nigerian Universities Ranking Advisory Committee, spearheaded a delegation from Nigeria at the event, as confirmed by the National Universities Commission.

He also disclosed that at least 51 other Nigerian universities have achieved remarkable success in the inaugural Times Higher Education 2023 Sub-Saharan Africa ranking.
Among the prestigious institutions that made their mark on the esteemed list, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta secured the 26th position, followed by Benson Idahosa University at 30th. Nnamdi Azikiwe University clinched the 31st spot, while Redeemer’s University claimed the 35th position. Notably, the University of Ibadan stood at 36th, closely followed by CRUTECH at 37th. OAU, Ife earned the 39th spot, while Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University attained the 43rd position. Adeleke University secured the 45th position, with Ahmadu Bello University closely behind at 46th.
The University of Benin achieved the 47th position, with Landmark University not far behind at 49th. Babcock University claimed the 50th position, while Ajayi Crowther University and Bells University of Technology fell within the 51-60th range, among others.
