Saudi Pro League set to appoint Nigerian Michael Emenalo as first director of football

Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo is set to be appointed as first director of football by the Saudi Pro League (SPL).

The league has embarked upon a massive swoop of big-name players and managers recently. This new development is only a testament to the willpower of the organisers of the league to make it a solid and more competitive one.

Recall that former Nigeria left-back operated in a similar role at Chelsea between 2011-2017. He oversaw a largely successful period across the men’s, women’s and academy sides while with the Blues.

Emenalo, 57, was also greatly involved in transfer activities, recruiting some of the best players seen in world football today. During his time at Chelsea, the West London club captured the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard. Mohamed Salah and N’Golo Kanté were also recruited when Emenalo was with Chelsea.

He was later appointed AS Monaco’s sporting director before leaving after two years. He has remained active in consultancy capacities since then.

Emenalo will bring his football experience and expertise to the Saudi Pro League

Emenalo is regarded as an expert in his field and will be a huge asset to the Saudi Pro League.

He will be tasked with the responsibility of helping the SPL develop frameworks and applying the kind of principles that are seen in the world’s biggest divisions.

The young ones will also learn the industry through him and advance their own careers under his watch.
