Ladies, here’s why having even your money may not make your man respect you

respect

These days, more and more women are taking jobs, working their ways to become independent, without needing to depend on their partners for money.

One of their motivations seems to be that their men will respect them, owing to the belief that men do not want to marry a liability as a wife.

While it is good for women to have their money, as it gives them a sense of security and personal responsibility, believing that having money or being independent will make a man respect you may not necessarily be so.

Respect, I think, is an intrinsic quality — you cultivate it and it becomes part and parcel of you. This is because there are women who work so well for themselves and even in marriage, yet still get disrespected by their men.

In the same vein, there are women who do not have much money but are still respected by their men. You should know what I am driving at now.

With or without money, how do you know you are being disrespected by your man?

According to marriage.com, some forms of disrespect are disregard for your free time, no respect for mental/emotional privacy, devaluing your ideas and opinions, belittling you, mocking or teasing your appearance, the silent treatment, weaponized insecurities, snooping, and making decisions without you, etc.

Disrespect manifest in many other forms, but as in all matters of the heart, you will certainly know when someone disrespects you.

What makes a man respect you?

In my belief, true respect is based on recognizing and valuing a person’s inherent worth, character, and contributions (like women’s unpaid labour in the house), irrespective of their financial status.

Respecting a woman should not be contingent on her economic status or financial success. A woman’s financial situation is just one aspect of her life and does not define her entire identity or worth as an individual.

A man can respect a woman for her intelligence, kindness, compassion, talents, achievements, and other personal qualities, irrespective of her financial standing.

A man who respects you will treat you with dignity, empathy, and consideration, regardless of your economic background.

As a woman, while it is good to make your own money, with or without money, you should have some values that are part of your core being, your intrinsic worth.
