WWC: England star Lauren James deactivates comment section on social media, risk suspension

England star player, Lauren James, has deactivated the comments section on her Instagram and Twitter handles after she was sent off in the 70th minute in the game against Nigeria on Monday morning.

The Chelsea womenā€™s forward received a red card from Argentinian referee Melissa Borjas, after she stepped on Nigeriaā€™s defender, Michelle Alozie’s buttock.

The referee had initially given James a yellow before she was advised to consult the VAR on-pitch monitor and then returned to give her a red card.

NRTC reported that after a 0-0 draw in extra minutes, the Lionesses defeated the Super Falcons in the Round of 16 of the Womenā€™s World Cup via a penalty shoot-out that ended 4:2 to advance to the quarterfinal.

NRTC gathered that the deactivation of James’ comments section must have been a result of Nigerians attacking her for stepping on Alozie which some tagged as racism.

More so, James’s action against Nigeriaā€™s Alozie may lead to her suspension from the ongoing Womenā€™s World Cup in Australia, according to FIFAā€™s rules if the body goes by it.

The FIFA rule states: ā€œA player will be suspended for at least three matches for violent conduct; at least three matches or an appropriate period for assault, including elbowing, punching, kicking, biting, spitting or hitting an opponent or a person other than a match official.ā€

As of press time, England only had a maximum of three games to play as they only qualified for the quarter-finals.
