Burna Boy addresses allegations levelled against him in new single, ‘Thanks’, says mum never danced for legendary artiste, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti


Nigerian recording artiste, Damini Ogulu who is better known as Burna Boy on Friday, August 25 released his seventh studio album, I Told Them.

In a single titled, ‘Thanks’ featuring American rapper, J.Cole, the self-acclaimed African Giant addressed numerous allegations levelled against by the Nigerian public.

The singer-songwriter mentioned that Nigerians have failed to acknowledge his musical prowess and talent. The Grammy winner went further to state that his colleagues have also preferred to ignore his lyrical dexterity.

Further, Burna Boy, whose maternal grandfather, Benson Idonije, was Fela Kutiā€™s first manager, also lashed out at Nigerians for speculating that the June 8, 2022, incident where his police escorts allegedly shot at one Ms. Steph Briella, her partner, and her best friend at Club Cubana, Victoria Island, Lagos, was because he wanted to snatch her from her partner.

In the newly released single, the Burna Boy said this on ā€œThanksā€, a J.Cole feature from his seventh studio album, ā€œI Told Them,ā€ which was released on Thursday night.

He sings: ā€œIs this the m*ing thanks I get for making my people proud, every chance I get?

ā€œItā€™s okay, I get. This Naija no love.

ā€œThey say my mama dance for Fela.

ā€œThey say I no get baby mama.

The lyrics reads further,

ā€œThey say I shoot person for Cubana because I want collect person womanā€¦


Is this the m***ing thanks I get? For making my people proud, every chance I get.ā€
