Burna Boy become first African musician to secure UK number 1 album


Nigerian recording artiste, Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ogulu has become the first African musician to secure a UK Number 1 album with ā€œI Told Them.ā€

Official Charts Company confirmed on Friday that Burna Boyā€™s seventh studio album, ā€œI Told Them,ā€ debuted at number 1 this week on the UK albums chart.

The ā€˜African Giantā€™ crooner was presented with a plaque by the British record chart company in commemoration of his record.

ā€œHe told them! @burnaboy makes UK chart HISTORY today as he claims his first Number 1 album,ā€ the company tweeted.

The self-acclaimed African giant quoted the tweet with the caption, ā€œLetā€™s Have It! #ITOLDTHEMā€Æā€Æā€Æ #ITOLDTHEMNUMBER1.ā€

Burna boy rose to stardom in 2012 after releasing “Like to Party”, the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E. The singer-songwriter has since released six more studio album, including the latest music project, I Told Them…

In 2021, the sensational Nigerian singer-songwriter became the first Afrobeats musician to win a Grammy award.
