When it comes to pretense, visitors top the list whenever they visit their host’s house (be it their brother’s, aunt’s, uncle’s, you name it) especially when food is involved.

They usually put on a faƧade and are on their best behaviours till the end of their stay. If you are wondering what these behaviours are, here are some of them I have found for you.

It’s even possible you have displayed one of such behaviours before as a guest in a host’s house.

1. Visitors pretend as if they are unaware that someone’s bringing their meals

In this case, they will probably focus on the TV and peep from the corner of their eyes. When the food is finally brought to them where they’re seated and they are called upon, they will pretend as if they’re suddenly taken aback.

2. Visitors usually pretend as if they don’t eat much

A visitor might tell the host “Ha, can I finish this food like this?” and end up finishing it. I often wonder why they say and do this. Just say thank you when the food is brought to you and eat your meal.

3. When these visitors are in Rome, they know how to behave as Romans

When asked to served himself, visitors take two or three slices of bread or serve just a little portion even though they are extremely hungry. They serve themselves according to how people in their host’s house do. They must not be seen displaying their gluttony in their host’s house.

4. Play excessively with the kids

No matter how annoying the kids are, the visitor tries as much as he can to turn his annoyance towards the kids into a playful gesture towards them.

5. They suddenly become The Good Samaritan

Always willing to help in the kitchen or join in the cooking in order to look responsible. This is someone who probably doesn’t wash plates in his own house. Now, he cleans and cooks in his host’s house.
