In 2022, the National Drivers Licence programme generated about N26.2 billion for the Nigerian government.
A total of 1,007,948 NDLs were created, according to an analysis of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Statistical Digest for the four quarters of 2022 that NRTC received.
In Nigeria, a driver’s licence would typically cost N26, 000 in 2022 for both new and renewal applications with a 3 or 5 year validity.

A new, three-year driver’s licence costs N30,000, and it costs N17,000 to renew one. A five-year licence costs N35 000, and N22,000 is required to renew it.
The Corps’ report for the four quarters encompasses data from all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In the first quarter of 2022, the FRSC produced 143,686 licenses while 333,752 units were produced in the second quarter.
The third quarter recorded the production of 272,324 licenses, a substantial figure albeit slightly lower than the preceding quarter while 258,186 licenses were produced in the last quarter, representing a drop of 5.2 percent.
In all, a total of 1,007,948 drivers’ licenses were produced in 2022. Analysis of production by states showed that Lagos recorded the production of 137,814 NDLs while FCT closely followed with 52,880 units.
Delta, Ogun, and Oyo achieved 60,527 units, 37,682 units, and 27,402 units, respectively.
