2024 Olympic qualifiers: Super Falcons thrash Ethiopia to advance to next round


Nigeria’s Super Falcons spanked Ethiopia 4-0 in the second leg of their third qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Football Olympic Games.

The Super Falcons were forced to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Olympic qualifiers played in Ethiopia last week.

Nigeria’s goal in the first leg was scored by Atlético Madrid forward Rasheedat Ajibade. Her ferocious long-range effort rescued that draw the Nigeria.

In the reverse fixture played at the MKO Abiola Stadium earlier today, Uchenna Kanu opened scoring in the first half. The American-based striker calmly slotted the ball past the Ethiopian goalkeeper to draw the first blood.

Ajibade, captain of the day, scored from close range following a pass from Asisat Oshoala to make it 2-0.

Super Falcons record dominant win

Oshoala then scored Nigeria’s third of the match in the 68th minute. The Barcelona Femeni striker found the target following a header from Kanu’s cross.

Ajibade scored her second goal of the game and Nigeria’s fourth to seal a 5-1 aggregate victory.

Nigeria have now qualified for the next round of the Olympic qualifiers and will await the winner between Uganda and Cameroon.

The next qualifying round is set to take place between February 9 and 28, 2024.
