Nigeria’s entertainment industry, popularly known as Nollywood, is one of the biggest and most influential in the world.
It has produced many star actors, directors, producers, and comedians who have entertained millions of viewers across the globe.
But did you know that some of these celebrities come from families that have been in the industry for decades? In this blog post, we will explore some of the second generation actors in Nollywood, who are following the footsteps of their parents and keeping the industry alive.
1. The Afolayan Family
One of the most prominent families in Nollywood is the Afolayan family, which traces its roots to the late Adeyemi Afolayan, also known as Ade Love.
He was a renowned actor, filmmaker, and musician who started his career in the 1960s and produced many classic movies such as Taxi Driver, Kadara, and Ija Ominira. He also mentored many other actors and filmmakers, such as Tunde Kelani and Ola Balogun.

His children have continued his legacy by becoming successful actors and filmmakers themselves. They include Kunle Afolayan, who has directed award-winning movies such as The Figurine, October 1, and Citation; Gabriel Afolayan, who has starred in movies such as Hoodrush, Ojuju, and Gold Statue; Moji Afolayan, who is a popular actress in the Yoruba-language cinema; and Aremu Afolayan, who is also an actor and producer.
2. The Adebayo Family
Another prominent family in Nollywood is the Adebayo family, which is led by Adebayo Salami, also known as Oga Bello.
He is one of the pioneers of the Yoruba-language cinema and has featured in over 200 movies since he started his career in the 1970s.
He is also the founder of Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group, which has produced many talented actors.
His children have also made their mark in the industry by becoming actors, producers, and directors. They include Femi Adebayo, who is one of the most popular actors in Nollywood and has won several awards for his roles in movies such as Jelili, Ayitale, and Diamond Ring; Tope Adebayo, who is a director and producer; Sodiq Adebayo, who is an actor and comedian; Rilwan Adebayo, who is an actor and musician; and Kemi Adebayo, who is an actress.
3. The Edochie Family
Another influential family in Nollywood is the Edochie family, which is headed by Pete Edochie. He is one of the most respected and veteran actors in Nollywood and has appeared in over 100 movies since he started his career in the 1980s.
Pete is best known for his roles in movies such as Things Fall Apart, Rituals, and Lionheart. He has also received many honors and awards for his contributions to the industry.
His sons have also followed his footsteps by becoming actors themselves. They include Yul Edochie, who is one of the leading actors in Nollywood and has featured in movies such as Wind of Glory, The Lamb, and Mummy Why; Linc Edochie, who is also an actor and producer; and Muna Edochie (deceased), who was also an actor.
These are just some of the examples of second generation actors in Nollywood who are keeping the industry alive by showcasing their talents and skills.
They are also inspiring many young Nigerians to pursue their dreams and passions in the entertainment sector.
