EFL Cup: Liverpool wallop West Ham to seal last four spot

Liverpool sailed into the EFL Cup last four with a fantastic victory against fellow Premier League club West Ham.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning 25-yard strike put the Reds in the driving seat at Anfield after 28 minutes.

Young English striker Curtis Jones extended the lead in the 56th minute. His goal came from an intuition only a brilliant footballer can effectively execute.

He deceived Alphonse Areola into thinking he was going to make a cut back from the edge of the penalty box. However, he decided to slam a shot towards goal, one that went through the West Ham goalkeeper’s legs.

Cody Gakpo then scored Liverpool’s third and his eighth goal of the season. Jarrod Bowen then scored the visitors’ only goal before club legend Mohamed Salah added another for the hosts.

Following an excellent run, Jones put the ball in the back of the net for his second and Liverpool’s fifth.

Harvey Elliott was outstanding and he continues to justify Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him.

This was the very first time Liverpool had scored five at home against West Ham since 1998.
